Death Cab For Cutie Celebrate 'Plans' 15th Anniversary With New Merch Line

Splendour In The Grass 2015 - Byron Bay

On Sunday (August 30), Death Cab For Cutie's major label debut Plans turned 15. Though the band's unable to celebrate with an anniversary tour, they're still commemorating the milestone with pandemic-friendly festivities. On Monday (August 31), bassist Nick Harmer wrote a retrospective message on DCFC's Instagram.

"15 years ago we made our major label debut with our fifth studio album Plans. We told ourselves that it was just another album, that now being on @atlanticrecords was no big deal, but it was and we knew it," he wrote. "I think that’s why we chose the barn studio at Long View Farms in Massachusetts, during winter, to isolate ourselves from the pressure and our fears and just be able to focus on music. We weren’t expecting getting snowed in and that gave the experience a heaping tablespoon of The Shining but in the end, we were able to shut out the world and make album that came from our hearts, a promise to ourselves that no matter what came at us next, we would always remember our music comes first."

He then revealed the band was celebrating the anniversary with a stream of Plans' accompanying visual album Directions on their YouTube channel this Saturday (September 5) at 5pm EST / 2pm PST and a new merch line dedicated to the album. He ended his message by thanking all those who made the album possible, as well as DCFC's "crew who make being a band on the road incredibly fun and easy. We miss you all."

Aside from the anniversary, DCFC have also been focusing their efforts on a virtual fundraiser called "We Have The Facts And We're Voting" to help raise money for two organizations that are devoted to voter rightsFair Fight Action and Future Now—while offering fans some pretty cool prizes.
