Ye has been barred from entering Australia following his pattern of antisemitic behavior.
On Wednesday, July 2, Australia's Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed the controversial artist had his visa revoked after he released a song called "Heil Hitler" earlier this year. Burke said the song promoted Nazism and added to the long list of offensive comments Ye has made over the past few years.
“He’s been coming to Australia for a long time," Burke said per ABC. He’s got family here. And he’s made a lot of offensive comments that my officials looked at again once he released the ’Heil Hitler’ song and he no longer has a valid visa in Australia."
“We have enough problems in this country already without deliberately importing bigotry,” Burke continued.
Ye's song was an apparent violation of Australia's Migration Act, which enforces security and character requirements for non-citizens entering the country. The artist formerly known as Kanye West has been visiting Australia frequently since he got married to his second wife, Bianca Censori. The fashion designer was born in Melbourne and still has family there. It's not clear if the ban is temporary or permanent. As of this report, Ye has not commented on the situation.
Australia isn't the only country that has voiced its opposition to Ye's political views. Citizens in Slovakia recently launched a petition to stop him from performing at an upcoming music festival in Bratislava. The petition's organizers claim Ye's performance at the Rubicon festival would be “an insult to historic memory, a glorification of wartime violence and debasement of all victims of the Nazi regime." Ye is set to headline the festival on July 20.
