Shutdown Could Impact Florida Homebuyers

The National flood insurance program has been hung out to dry on Day #2 of Uncle Sam's shutdown. Insurance Information Institute's Mark Friedlander says if you have an existing policy, you will not be impacted, but if you are closing on a house and need flood insurance as part of the mortgage requirement you may have an issue. His advice-- call your agent and get quotes from private insurers. existing policies that are up for renewal will be put on hold until the shutdown ends. Florida has the most National Flood Insurance policy holders in the country.
