Rays Earn Series Win Over Angels

The Tampa Bay Rays (36-20) defeated the Los Angeles Angels (23-37) 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. With the win, the Rays have won the three-game series against the Angels.

Jonathan Aranda hit a solo home run in the first to start the scoring for Tampa Bay, but the Angels got one back off a Shane McClanahan wild pitch in the second to tie the game 1-1. In the third the Rays took the lead for good with a RBI single from Victor Mesa with the bases loaded that made it 2-1 - moments later Cedric Mullins took a bases loaded walk that made it 3-1.

Logan O'Hoppe homered for the Angels in the top of the seventh to pull within 3-2, but the Rays answered in the bottom of the frame. Ben Williamson hit a RBI single that made it 4-2, before Yandy Diaz took a bases loaded walk that made it 5-2, which would prove to be the final score.

Shane McClanahan (6-2, 2.45) got the win after allowing one earned run on four hits in five innings of work in which he struck out three and walked none. Bryan Baker earned his 16th save after working a scoreless ninth inning.

The Rays remain at home and will begin a three game series against the Detroit Tigers on Monday night. Griffin Jax (1-3, 3.60) is scheduled to get the start for the Rays.
